Principal in the law firm of Mahoney & Mahoney, LLC, Tim has lived in Stephenson County his entire life. He graduated from Aquin High School in 1985 and received his undergraduate degree from St. Ambrose University, graduating with a BA in 1989. In 1992, he graduated from Northern Illinois University College of Law. He was the third person in the university named to their Moot Court Hall of Fame.
Since receiving his license to practice law, Tim has practiced at his own law firm exclusively. He has been involved in all areas of litigation, from criminal law, family law, and estates to now specializing in personal injury. Tim has successfully handled cases on behalf of injured clients and their families throughout Illinois, as well as in other states across the country.
Tim has been honored by being inducted into the Million Dollar and Multi-Million Dollar Advocates Forums, national groups of trial lawyers who have achieved million dollar or multi-million dollar verdicts and settlements on behalf of their clients. In fact, Tim has several of the highest jury verdicts in the history of Stephenson County and has one of the highest personal injury settlements in the history of Northwest Illinois.
Statewide and nationally, Tim has been a long-time professional member of the Illinois State and American Bar Associations, as well as the American Association for Justice. Locally, he has been the chairperson for the Stephenson County Merit Commission from 1995 to present. He was the President of the Stephenson County Bar Association from 2002 to 2008.
Tim has received a rating from Martindale-Hubbell that indicates his peers consider him to have a high to very high legal ability, as well as an exemplary reputation and the highest level of integrity.
Tim has been the recipient of the Freeport Journal Standard’s “Best in the Region” readers choice awards. He was voted one of the top three attorneys in the region, from the conception of the poll in 1999 all the way to the present. He has now been voted best attorney in the region nine years in a row.
Tim has also taught business law at Highland Community College and is a graduate of the Highland Leadership Institute. He has sat on the boards of United Way, Jane Addams Mental Healthcare, Parkview Nursing Home, and the Aquin Open Committee, as well as the Catholic Education Foundation. He has also received acknowledgments from VOICES, the Stephenson County Domestic Violence Program, and Malcolm Eaton Enterprises Day Facility for Adults with Developmental Disabilities for significant pro bono services to their organizations.
Tim’s daughter resides in Los Angeles, California, where she is following her dream of becoming an actress.
